MARITIME INFORMATION

A guide to libraries and sources of information in the United Kingdom
Edited by Roy Fenton, Nuala Briody, Mike Macdonald

The Maritime Information Association's directory to sources of maritime information has long been a unique tool for librarians, archivists and researchers. The 2004 edition contains 500 entries, covering the whole spectrum of maritime organisations, from major depositories and libraries such as the National Archives and the National Maritime Museum, through local record offices and libraries and some commercial organisations, to professional and voluntary bodies and learned societies.

Each entry lists: addresses, telephone, fax, e-mail and web addresses; how information is provided, details of access, opening times and facilities, an indication of subject coverage; details of any special collections of maritime interest; specific databases; and relevant publications.

There is a comprehensive index, and appendices cover: records of merchant seamen, crew agreements and log books; ship registration documents; maritime information on the Internet; and passenger records.

The directory is distributed by J. and M. Clarkson, 18 Franklands, Longton, Preston PR4 5PD, UK at £27 including postage.
